Focus Timer for Work

This focus timer for work runs 50-minute blocks with 10-minute breaks, or you can pick 25/5, 90/15 or a custom length. Put your phone face down beside the keyboard: it counts every time you pick it up and shows how much of your work time was phone-free.

It’s free, with no app to install and no signup.

A regular work timer keeps counting while you check your phone

The timer says 50 minutes of focus. It has no way to know how many of them went to your phone.

The usual fixes are the phone in a drawer, or a blocker you install and give permissions to. Here, the phone lies face down beside the keyboard, and it counts every time you pick it up.

On average, students studying at home got distracted in under 6 minutes

Researchers watched 263 middle school, high school and university students during a 15-minute study session at home.

On average, they spent only 65% of those 15 minutes actually studying. The rest of the time they were distracted, most often by social media and texting.

Phone checks during a work block get a CAUGHT stamp

Lift the phone, lock it or open another app, and you get a CAUGHT stamp, a sound and a live timer showing how long you’ve been on your phone.

Working on a computer? Scan the QR code shown with the timer, and your phone opens it full screen with the same block length.

Deep work blocks run 50 or 90 minutes, with breaks built in

Pick 50/10 or 90/15 from the list under the start button, 25/5 for shorter tasks, or set your own lengths with Custom. For a task with no set length, count up until it’s done.

A chime marks the end of each block. Breaks are free, so a pickup during a break doesn’t count.

Motion readings from your phone never leave your browser

  • The motion sensor only tells the page whether the phone is face down. Each reading is checked in your browser and dropped. None are saved or sent.
  • No sign-up and no email. Visits are counted with Google Analytics, which never sees your timer or your phone.
  • Your totals sit in this browser’s storage. Clear your browsing data and they are gone.
  • The end card is made on your device. Nobody sees it unless you save or share it.

Focus timer for work questions, answered

Can I use it on a work laptop?
Yes. It runs in the browser, with nothing to install and no account. The laptop shows the timer, and your phone counts the pickups.
Does it track what I do on my computer?
No. It doesn’t see your tabs, apps or screen. On a phone, it only checks whether the phone is face down and whether this page is still open.
Can I pause it for a meeting?
Yes. Press pause, then resume from where you left off. Paused time doesn’t count as focus time.
Does the next block start by itself?
No. The break starts by itself when a block ends. When the break is over, a chime plays and you press start for the next block.
What if I need to take a call?
Take it, then tap “Undo: that was a call” on the caught screen. The pickup is taken back, and the clock carries on once the phone is face down again.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. It keeps time from your computer’s clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab.
